I am a Wyoming lawyer, husband and father. I created Start In Wyoming to help entrepreneurs and digital nomads take advantage of Wyoming’s favorable business environment.

My mission is to help you take advantage of Wyoming’s low annual fees, strong privacy protections, and straightforward laws. Plus, there is no State income tax.

My favorite small business owners have a slightly random origin story. The path between the business owner’s skill and what the market wants is not linear.

Here is mine.

Back in 1999-2000, my father, a software programmer, built form7.com to help people file their own bankruptcy petitions online. He charged $35 and built the site in 16 colors, so that poor people with CRT monitors could use the service. In 2005, the year I graduated college, he passed away and the website shut down.

I like to think that if he lived, we would have gone into business together in the Wild West Days of the Internet.

Instead, I taught English in Brazil and found my way to law school at the University of Washington. In 2010, I became a lawyer. In 2012, I moved to Wyoming, where I built a criminal defense and personal injury practice. Over time, the law firm grew. I got married and we had kids.

As a lawyer, I like the challenge of representing the underdog. My team and I sue big corporations on behalf of individuals and small businesses. It’s a thrill to hold the powerful accountable under the law. And yet…litigation is not a creative act. Yes, my favorite litigators are devious and creative sons of bitches. But at the end of day, you’re fighting for a larger slice of a pie that someone else baked.

I want to bake the damn pie. And Wyoming happens to be the best place in the world to establish a small business, especially if you’re a digital nomad or foreigner. And I happen to be a lawyer–one who has spent an enormous amount of time tearing down contracts and entity documents.

Let me help you start in Wyoming, whether that’s starting a new business or taking the next step.
